£1 Community Event Makes a Splash

Hundreds of people flocked to Carn Brea Leisure Centre, in Pool, on Saturday when the centre opened its doors for an exciting community event.

All activities were reduced to just £1, resulting in over 800 visitors across the eight hour day.

Including swimming, badminton and squash, fitness classes and the gym, customers were able to get involved with all the activities the Centre has to offer, with many visitors trying a new activity for the first time.

Parents were also able to enrol their children in a selection of tasters, including Gym Stars Gymnastics, a programme developed for 2 – 8 year olds by Olympic Gymnast Beth Tweddle

The Centre’s experienced Swimming Teachers were on hand too, giving children the chance to swim distances in order to earn official Kellogg’s badges and certificates.

Nat Mitchell, who attended with her family, commented: “It was lovely to see the pool so busy, and the inflatable slide was great fun. We all loved it so much, we swam twice!”

Tilly Smith, Sales & Marketing Manager at Carn Brea, added: “As a local Charitable Trust, it was great to see so many people from the community coming to the Centre to get active and try something new. The atmosphere was electric, and it seemed that both staff and customers had a brilliant time.”

Visitors also had a chance to view exciting plans of the Centre’s proposed gym extension, scheduled for later this year, which will see the existing fitness suite increased by a third to a massive 400 square metres.

Alex Clifton, the Trust’s Chief Operating Officer, was on hand to answer questions about the centre’s development plans, commenting: “Today’s event was an ideal opportunity to announce our exciting proposal to improve the health & fitness facilities at Carn Brea. The response from the community was overwhelmingly positive and we are looking forward to releasing full details of the project shortly.”
